Google syndrome linked to Hypochondriasis

▴ Google syndrome
Constantly searching the internet to relate symptoms with diseases is a mental health issue.

Frequently assuming about suffering from grave illness even when there are no signs of anything wrong. Inadvertently, every time exaggerating the symptoms. Having some kind of an affliction. All these are signs of you suffering from Hypochondriasis.

Described as a disorder of cognition and perception, Hypochondriasis entails misinterpretation of body sensations. It is common when a person has had past experiences with illness that lead to development of faulty assumptions about symptoms and diseases. Though mostly seen in people whose parents are overprotective, there are a few more reasons of Hypochondriasis.

It’s in the family : Hypochondriasis can be inherited. If some close relative of yours has Hypochondriasis, it is highly likely that you may also find yourself suffering from it.

Associated with other psychiatric disorders : This is one of the most common reasons. Those who are already suffering from depression, panic disorder, OCD, or generalised panic disorder, are more likely to suffer from Hypochondriasis, which is seen as an extension of these mental health issues.

Google syndrome : In this, the patient of Hypochondriasis, keeps logging on to Google to identify his symptoms with a chronic health disease based on the information available on the net or other forms of media.
