Death toll in India rises to 1,074, Covid-19 cases surge past 33,000-mark

The death toll due to coronavirus in India reached 1,074 on Thursday as total cases surged past the 33,000-mark. According to the health ministry, while there are 23,651 active cases in India, over 8,000 people have already recovered. As of Wednesday evening, the death toll due to Covid-19 in India stood to 1,008 while the number of cases had reached 31,787.


Haryana: 10 Covid-19 positive in Jhajjar

A total of 10 fresh cases of coronavirus have been und positive in Jhajjar in Haryana. Of these, nine are vegetable vendors who have a history of travelling to Delhi and one is a nurse. The total cases in Jhajjar district now stands at 18, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Randeep Puniya has said.

Lockdown can’t last forever, need to cleverly manage reopening: Raghuram Rajan

Raghuram Rajan said there India needs to reopen businesses as livelihoods of millions are at risk due to the extended lockdown.
The former RBI governor also said that there is an urgent need for the government to support the country's poor. When Gandhi asked how much money India needs to help its poor population during the lockdown, Rajan said India will need a budget of at least Rs 65,000 crore.
"India should do this," Rajan said.
During the conversation, Rajan also said India needs to think about how it plans to open up businesses and offices. "What we have to do is manage the lockdown. India needs to be clever about the lockdown reopening strategy," he said
Rajan said, "There are ways countries can take advantage of the situation. There will be rethinking. In this situation India can find opportunities for Its industry."


India: Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat account for 52% cases in India

Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi are the hotspots of Covid-19 cases in India. These three states have seen significant rise in new cases in past few weeks. Together, they account for 52% of India's Covid-19 cases
More than 1,000 people have died due to novel coronavirus, while more than 7,600 have recovered.
The past few weeks have seen a significant spike in Covid-19 cases in India, with Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh emerging as hotspots.

36 recover from Covid-19 in Gurugram

As on Wednesday, Gurugram had 54 cases of which 36 had recovered and had been discharged from the hospital. Three new cases were reported on Wednesday.
VS Kundu, Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana, said: "Any district which earlier came in red zone will turn into orange only if no positive case appears in 14 days. And from Orange to Green zone required another 14 days for any cases to report."
"Initially we had cases from upscale residential societies. The district administration immediately declared containment zones followed by affected areas being sealed through three layers of security," Kundu said.
