73 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours: India sees highest single-day spike in toll.
The Covid-19 tally of India has crossed the 31,000-mark and the death toll has surged past 1,000. Over 7,600 people have been recovered so far.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 73 deaths in the last 24 hours, ending Wednesday morning, taking the death toll to 1,007.
Maharashtra continues to have the highest number of Covid-19 infections in India. Gujarat has the second-highest number of positive cases in India with 3,744 cases. The total number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi stood at 3,314. Madhya Pradesh has a total of 2,387 positive cases as of Wednesday. In Tamil Nadu the total cases have climbed to 2,364 while 768 people have recovered. 
Tamil Nadu: 121 children test positive to date; state coronavirus tally crosses 2,000.
The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the state of Tamil Nadu has now risen to 2,058, the state Health Department said on Tuesday. 
Health Department shows that 121 children below the age of 12 have tested positive for Covid-19 in the state to date.
Of the 2,058 positive cases, 1,392 are male and 666 are female patients. Chennai reported 103 new cases over the last 24 hours, taking the city's tally to 673.
The state also witnessed one coronavirus-related death between Monday night and Tuesday evening, raising the Covid-19 death toll in Tamil Nadu to 25.
Gujarat overtakes Delhi, now has 2nd highest cases after Maharashtra.
The past few weeks have seen a significant spike in Covid-19 cases in India, with Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh emerging as hotspots. On April 19, Gujarat overtook Madhya Pradesh to become the state with the third highest tally of Covid-19 cases. And on April 22, it became the state with the second highest number of Covid-19 cases, only next to Maharashtra.
The number of Covid-19 cases in India has crossed the 20,000 mark. More than 600 people have died due to novel coronavirus, while close to 4,000 have recovered.
