Notwithstanding Eid holidays, MoHAP orders extra tests and strict social distancing

The UAE has conducted over 35,000 additional COVID-19 tests in line with the Ministry of Health and Prevention's plans to intensify virus screening and containment of the spread, using the latest medical examination technology.

The accelerated testing measures resulted in the detection of 781 new coronavirus cases among various nationalities, all of whom are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary care; taking the total number of infections in the country to 29,485, according to a MoHAP statement today.

The Ministry also announced the death of one patients of different nationalities from COVID-19, taking up the total of deaths in the country to 245.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all patients, calling on the public to cooperate with health authorities and comply with all precautionary measures, particularly social distancing, to ensure their safety and protection.

The Ministry also announced the full recovery of another 561 cases who are receiving the necessary medical treatment, taking the total number of those recovered from the virus to 15,056.

Meanwhile,on the occasion of Eid, United Arab Emirates yesterday sent an aid plane carrying 7 metric tons of medical supplies to Afghanistan.The aid will assist approximately 7,000 medical professionals as they work to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commenting on the aid delivery, Eisa Salem Mohammed Aldhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Afghanistan, remarked: “The UAE is committed to ensuring that the medical professionals of Afghanistan are equipped with the appropriate protective equipment to enhance their health and safety as they bravely combat the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Through multiple aid shipments, the UAE is determined to work with Afghanistan in the spirit of collaboration and unity to improve health outcomes for the country and its people,” he added.

In March 2020, the UAE dispatched an urgent medical aid shipment to Afghanistan containing 20,000 testing units and equipment to examine thousands of people.

The United Arab Emirates today surpassed more than 641 metric tons of global medical and food assistance and supported more than 641,000 healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19 with the delivery of 7 metric tons of medical supplies to Belarus.

Commenting on the aid delivery, His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Manqoosh Alteneiji, UAE Ambassador to Belarus, stated: “The UAE has stood firmly on the side of all countries working to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our country has sent a message of unity to the world, demonstrating that solidarity must go beyond words and extend to concrete action.”

“With today’s delivery, the UAE has now successfully delivered more than 500 metric tons of medical and food assistance to dozens of countries around the world, illustrating our commitment to defeating this virus together,” His Excellency added.

In another update from UAE, Consulate General of India in Dubai has warned Indian nationals living in the UAE to not fall prey to fraudsters who are collecting advance for airfare on chartered flights to India.

The consulate issued a press note that said, "It has come to our notice that certain people and travel agencies in UAE are contacting Indian nationals in the name of forthcoming chartered flights to various destinations in India and in some cases, alluring them to pay money in advance for airfare and quarantine charges in India."

It said, "Consulate General of India in Dubai would like to advise all the Indian nationals living in UAE that the government of India has yet not accorded approval for any such chartered flights as of now."

The statement said, "A proposal of chartered flight to India, if any, for any designated purpose, will be approved by the Govt of India and routed through Consulate General of India, Dubai during the current crisis of Covid-19 and till resumption of normal international civil aviation services between India and UAE."

It added, "All Indian nationals are advised to take note of the above and advised not to fall prey to any such people or agents on pretext of arranging chartered flights to certain destinations."
