North East updates : Nagaland reports first 3 cases of pandemic ,Assam and Meghalaya also reported fresh cases

Nagaland has reported three confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 with two persons in Dimapur and one in Kohima.
The cases were detected from among the returnees from Chennai. The test report was received this morning which was conducted at the BLS-3 laboratory in Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.Breaking the news,  Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Mr. Menukhol John  said two of them are of symptomatic and one is asymptomatic. He said active contact tracing and surveillance activities are in progress to contain the spread of the virus.Notably the state was free from the pandemic all these days.

Chief Secretary Mr. Temjen Toy has urged upon all citizens to cooperate and refrain from social stigmatization. He said adequate care and counseling are being given to those who are tested positive. The Chief Secretary appealed all citizens that this is the time to show solidarity and determination to fight this pandemic.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mr. S. Pangnyu Phom in a tweet stated that the condition of the patients are stable and are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dimapur and Chedema in Kohima respectively. “They are undergoing treatment at Dimapur District Hospital and Chedema (COVID-19 hospital at Chedema), Kohima respectively. Their condition is stable and all contact tracing are in progress,” he added.

Due to the coronavirus cases, flight services in Nagaland, scheduled to resume from today after a two-month halt have been cancelled till 27th of May.

Dimapur Airport Director Mughavi Zhimo informed that today’s scheduled flights were cancelled as all inbound and outbound flights from Kolkata were cancelled as per the directive from the state government. However, the resumption of the flight service in Dimapur will be known only on 27th of May, the official stated.

Meanwhile in Assam, 74 new positive cases of coronavirus are reported today in the state. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said that the number of active cases have gone up to 402. The Minister however clarified that most of the positive cases are imported and not home- grown.

Today, Eid ul Fitr is being celebrated across the state. However, most of the people either offered prayers at their homes or in mosque maintaining social distance. Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal extended greetings to the people of the state on this occasion.

In Meghalaya,another person tested positive of COVID-19 taking the total number of active cases to two and the total number who have tested positive stands at 15.

State Health Minister A L Hek informed that the total number of samples tested so far is 6,353, of which 5,238 were negative, 12 patients recovered and one patient lost his life while the results of 1,100 tests are awaited. The person is a Chennai returnee who had come along with the 14th positive patient and was under quarantine all this while at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that over 9,500 people have so far returned to Meghalaya. He said that special trains from Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh will leave for Guwahati tomorrow evening. He said that one train each from Delhi and Kerala will head towards Guwahati the day after tomorrow.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the State government has constituted two dedicated teams. One for those having to go out of the state for important work and the other for those stranded who are yet to register themselves with the State Government to return.
