A large section of the population is suffering from some form of nutrition deficiencies. Such deficiencies are causing India 1% of its GDP. On average 6000 children below the age of 5 die daily due to various deficiencies. 6.6 million children are born mentally handicapped due to iodine deficiency. For this, the government is trying to increase access to iodise salt. Here are the 3 most common deficiencies faced in India.

Vitamin D

As work and schools remain online, many children and adults are not getting the right opportunity to go out into the sunlight. This causes vitamin D deficiencies. A deficiency in this can cause your bones to go weak, declines cognitive ability and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Make sure you receive morning sunlight for a good 30 minutes every day.

Vitamin B12

If you see a sudden drop in your weight, fatigue and loss of balance then you might be suffering from a deficiency of vitamin B12. A loss of vitamin B12 affects your brain, muscles, and nerves. To overcome this have sardines, tuna and beef in your diet. Vegetarians can have mushrooms, beetroots, and yogurt.

Calcium

A deficiency of calcium is harmful to you. Calcium is essential to maintain healthy bones, teeth, gums, and muscles. Low calcium can increase the risk of osteoporosis and cataract. To check whether you are suffering from a calcium deficiency, check your nails. If you have brittle and weak nails then you are suffering from a deficiency. Include dairy in your diet. Milk, cheese, dahi is calcium-rich. Other food options are eggs, soybeans and broccoli.
