▴ On World Spine Day Dr Tushar Deore educate us about importance of spinal health
“The World Spine Day”, Covid-19 has pushed all of us to uncertain times but the show must go on and life has to be lived healthy. Let’s start with the theme “Back on track”.

This day is meant for awareness of spinal health, well-being and spine CARE.

C- Create Awareness

A - Act Now

R - Reach Out the Spine Specialist on time

E - Exercise

More than 1 billion people suffer across the globe with back pain and this being one of the most common causes of disability on this planet. Work from home, online schooling, household chores without any domestic help support etc. has definitely added to the number of back and neck pain complaints in all age groups.

So let’s get Aware- When we stand and walk our entire body weight transmits to the ground by gravity but when we sit for work on desk gravity is broken and entire body weight transmits to our lower back which gives lot of mechanical stress and back pain episodes. Since sitting cannot be avoided, an arrangement for ergonomic sitting becomes essential which includes good lumbar and upper back support chairs. While working on mobiles due to progressive forward flexion with every 10° bending we put 10 pounds of weight on our delicate neck. So mobile phones are causing immobile neck.

Covid-19 pandemic has forced kids to stay away from the regular sports and fitness activities. Online schooling adds up to long sitting hours, leading to number of complaints from kids about neck & back pain. It is therefore essential for parents and kids to become vigilant about postures. Guide children for correct postures, limited screen time, floor exercises like yoga, Suryanamaskar. Encourage healthy food habits, partner with them in other recreational activities like reading, drawing, painting, dancing. It may not be necessary to panic but it is essential to address kids back & neck pain complaints.

What needs to be done - World Spine Day let’s take pledge

 To get up every 45 to 60 minutes from desk and walk

 Align the screen at an eye level. This will prevent progressive pressure and avoid stress on the
neck.

 Ensure exercise regime, responsible lifting and good postures

 Take timely advise from Orthopaedic Spine Specialist

Remember Spine Care First
