Maharashtra Covid vaccine update January 27, 2021

Maharashtra has achieved the milestone of vaccinating over one lakh people against coronavirus infection within ten days of the launch of the vaccination drive. Principal Secretary of the state's Public Health Department, Mr Pradeep Vyas has informed that 1,35,701 persons have been administered vaccine doses till date. AIR correspondent reports that with the vaccination drive expanded to over 477 centres across Maharashtra, a total of 35,816 healthcare workers were inoculated on Monday.

According to the state’s health department, Dhule district topped the vaccination drive with 144 percent turnout while Wardha, Bhandara, Osmanabad and Satara districts too saw more than 100 percent turnout. On the other hand, below 50 percent vaccination was reported at Raigad, Nanded and Aurangabad districts.

With over 1.36 lakh people receiving the first shot of the vaccine, the state has so far not reported any case of serious adverse effect post-vaccination. Maharashtra’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope has also urged healthcare workers to be optimistic and take the jab without any fear or inhibitions.

With the state allowing on-the-spot vaccination of healthcare workers whose names are already registered on the CO-WIN app, the drive is likely to gather more pace when it resumes tomorrow. Maharashtra has about eight lakh healthcare workers and the state plans to vaccinate all of them in the coming three months.
