Dr. Rakhi Gupta says, “PCOS is a common problem. It is not a disease but a lifestyle disorder. 10 - 20 % of women and girls have this problem. It basically affects the reproductive system. It affects the reproductive age group of women starting from 10 years of age and increasing to 40 - 45 years of age. The major cause is lifestyle problems. At reproductive age, our diet is affected by oily, junk, sugary, and street food. This causes high-calorie intake. This increases fat deposition which leads to hormonal imbalance. Other causes of PCOS are- 

  • Lack of exercise 
  • Sedentary lifestyle 
  • Nature of work 
  • Genetic 
  • Radiations 
  • Insecticides 
  • Preservatives in food."

Early symptoms of PCOS

Dr. Rakhi Gupta informs,” The early symptoms of PCOS are- 

  • Weight gain 
  • Obese girls 
  • Acne on cheeks, face, shoulder, back 
  • Hairfall 
  • Hirsutism, hair growth on the face
  • Irregular periods
  • Defective ovulation 
  • Infertility 
  • Complications of cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension.” 

Foods not to eat with PCOS

Dr. Rakhi Gupta states, “There is nothing to abstain from the diet. Everything is good in moderation. Mother has to be careful regarding the diet of the child. 

  • Avoid oily and fried foods 
  • Switch to home-cooked meals 
  • Avoid sugary foods 
  • Exercise and active lifestyle 
  • Jogging or walking 

Insulin sensitivity improves with a healthy diet and exercise.”
