Maharashtra recorded 9,927 new Covid-19 cases and 56 more coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday, exactly one year since the state recorded its first confirmed case.

The number of new Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra continues to rise with the state reporting 9,927 new Covid-19 cases and 56 deaths on Tuesday.

The state's case fatality rate stands at 2.35 per cent. Case fatality rate is the percentage of Covid-19 patients who have died in the state.

A total of 12,182 patients were discharged on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 20,89,294. As per the health department, the state's current recovery rate is 93.34 per cent.

Maharashtra has so far tested 1,70,22,315 samples for Covid-19, of which 22,38,398 have tested positive for the viral disease. This puts the positivity rate, as per the latest figures at 13.15 per cent.


At present, there are 4,57,962 people in home quarantine in Maharashtra while 3,827 people are in institutional quarantine.

The number of active cases in the state is 95,322.

Lockdowns, other measures in place
The Maharashtra government has reimposed restrictive measures in several major cities, including Mumbai and Pune, to counter the increase in new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. These measures include night curfews and weekend lockdowns in parts of the state.

Interacting with the media on Tuesday, Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh said stringent measures could be taken to curb further spread of Covid-19 in the coming days. This would include the closure of public places such as Chowpatty and Gateway of India.


The Union Health Ministry revealed on Monday that six states, including Maharashtra, accounted for 86.25 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases reported from across India between March 7 and March 8.

High-level teams have been deputed to these states to help the respective authorities tackle the surge in new cases of coronavirus.Live TV
