Steps to protect your lungs

There has been a high rise in respiratory issues during the winter months. Let us not forget the pandemic issues which are one of the major reasons for the cause of concern. Here are the essential steps to protect your lungs.

The spread of respiratory infections is much more prevalent during the winter months. There is an increasing rise in the cases of colds, flu, and allergies, especially post-COVID. It is extremely important to take proper care and precautions to prevent lung diseases. Furthermore, the breaking news in Delhi about the poor quality of air has taken an additional toll on our lungs and respiratory health. In such cases, it is important to take precautions to protect the lungs. 

Here are some important things you can do to protect yourself from viruses and harmful air pollutants. 

Wear a face mask- Prevention is better than cure

One of the best ways to protect yourself from contagious viruses and harmful air pollutants is by wearing a proper, well-fitting mask. Covering your mouth and nose with a mask is said to offer a considerable amount of protection from not just fast-spreading infections but also pollution. 

Look out for symptoms- Early-stage detection 

All respiratory infections can cause colds, flu, and COVID. This can all lead to lung distress. Some of the common symptoms of respiratory issues are as follows-

Avoid too many outdoor and crowded places

Those who are more vulnerable and prone to respiratory issues with pre-existing respiratory issues should avoid crowded places. It is important to take extra precautions, especially with seasonal changes or over-polluted cities for immune-compromised individuals to safeguard their health. This will help keep complications at bay such as asthma, COPD, and severe bronchitis. 

Eat healthy lung-strengthening foods

A balanced and nutritious diet can work wonders for healthy lungs. It is important to include vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Along with this, it is essential to cut down on oily, carbs, and surgery foods. One should opt for a high-fiber diet, and a diet rich in antioxidants for healthy lungs.
