Centre has dispensed Rs 6,600 crore to Tamil Nadu since April for procurement of medical gear to manage the COVID-19 pandemic

Tamil Nadu crosses the 70000-mark on Thursday recording 3,509 novel Coronavirus cases, which shoots up the tally to 70,977 cases.
Out of the overall cases, Chennai reported 1,834 cases, and five other districts reported over 100 cases on Thursday.
At least 45 people have died owing to Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu on the same day. With this, Tamil Nadu reported 911 coronavirus-related deaths thus far.
Meanwhile, 2,236 people have recovered and are discharged on Thursday.
The age-wise distribution shows that folks between the age bracket of 13-60 are the foremost affected with total of 59,073 people in this age bracket being tested positive for COVID-19. Till now, 3,481 children below the age of 12 are tested positive for the new Coronavirus.
A total of 8,423 people above the age of 60 have tested positive for the COVID-19 thus far within the State.
"COVID-19 testing is completed in 47 government and 41 private labs across Tamil Nadu. 70,977 persons have tested positive to date. 9,37,412 samples were tested negative. Testing of 585 samples are under process," a press statement by the government read.
The report stated that till June 24, overall 2,61,724 people entered Tamil Nadu via various routes. Out of 2,61,724 people that entered the state, 2,887 people have tested positive for the deadly new Coronavirus.
Keeping the situation in view the Centre has dispensed Rs 6,600 crore to Tamil Nadu since April for procurement of medical gear to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, Union minister of finance Nirmala Sitharaman stated on Thursday.
Besides, Rs 2,825 crore value help had been launched to the State until June 14 by means of various welfare scheme elements of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, she informed BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit staff addressing a digital rally.

“Considering that the govt will need funds to shop for medical equipment like ventilators, Rs 6,600 crore was given to Tamil Nadu during this fiscal within these three months to tackle COVID-19 and to ascertain that folks don't face any difficulty,” the Minister was quoted as saying.


Under the PM Garib Kalyan scheme, rice and wheat were provided to Tamil Nadu and it reached 8.64 crore natives.
Also, within the Jan Dhan financial organization accounts, cumulatively, Rs 610 crore had been deposited into the accounts of 1.22 crore girls beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu for the months of April and May by means of the help of Rs 500 monthly, Ms. Sitharaman reportedly stated.
