Triveni--3 Day Music and Dance Festival begins

Late Ustad Alka Rakha Qureshi, who was largely responsible for introducing Tabla to the Western audience honoured with ​a​ lifetime achievement award posthumously and presented it to his son.

Hyderabad, January 06, 2024......Triveni, a three-day Music & Dance Festival began at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Public Garden in Hyderabad on Friday night .

At the inauguration of the three-day festival, the late Ustad Alka Rakha Qureshi a well-known Indian Tabla player who specialised in Hindustani Classical Music, who frequently accompanied Sitar Maestro Pandit Ravi Dhankar and who was largely responsible for introducing Tabla to the Western audience was honoured posthumously with lifetime achievement award. The award was presented to his son Ustad Toufiq Qureshi who later performed at the Triveni Music and Dance Festival

The three-day Triveni festival was conceptualised by our late father Mohan Hemmadi in memory of our late mother Anuradha. Before it could materialise my father had gone to my mother. Today we are organising this as a loving memory of our late parents Anuradha Hemmadi and Mohan Hemmadi informed Siddharth, son of Mohan Hemmadiji. Surmandal is organising the three-day festival with the support from Canara Bank, Department of Culture, Government of Telangana in association.

Mohan Hemmadi served society through Indian classical music for the past 53 years he said. He had a love and passion for Indian Classical Music he said

Mamidi Harikrishna, Director, Dept of Language and Culture,  Govt of Telangana praised Mohan Hemmadi for his contribution to Hindustani Classical Music.

On Friday, the opening day of the festival, Sitar and Santoor recital was performed by Kum Shruti Katkuri(Sitar) and Kum Shreeja Katkuri(Santoor). They were accompanied by Shri Vijay Kumar Panchal on Tabla.

Following this, a Percussion Melody was held by Pandit_Yogesh Samsiji at Table, Shri Taufeequ Qureshion Djembe, Satish Patri on Mrudangam and Tanmay Deochake on Harmonium.

Surmandal is a group formed by music lovers of Hyderabad way back in 1934. It was founded by the late Shri Mohan Hammadi, who served Indian Hindustani Classical Music for the past so many years. Since then it has been promoting Indian Classical Music uninterruptedly. Surmandal has organised top-notch music events showcasing the beauty and depth of Indian classical music to audiences worldwide.

On day two on 6th January, at 6.30 pm another interesting and melodious program will be held. At this program, Miss Sunil Mishra, the singer will perform. She will be accompanied by Shri Ajeet Pathak on Tabla and Shri Rahul Deshpande on Harmonium.

On day three on 7th January the final day of the three-day festival, a Carnatic Vocal performance will be held. Master Aditya, a special child with learning disabilities (Autism) who excels in Carnatic Vocals will enthral the audience. This performance will be followed by a Sarod recital by Shri Parthosarathi Choudhary, Senior disciple of Late Pandit Ravi Shankarji. Pandit Yogesh Samsiji will be on Tabla.

The final program of the festival will be a Kathak performance by Pandit Rajendra Gangani.
