Awanish Kumar Awasthi says that at least 26 to 27 lakh migrants have returned UP in recent weeks

Uttar Pradesh recorded 184 fresh Coronavirus cases on Thursday, soaring the northern State’s tally of confirmed cases to 7,170. Within two days Uttar Pradesh also witnessed recoveries of 224 more patients.

With the present development, the total number of recovered Coronavirus took a surge to 4,215.

UP also regrets 197 coronavirus-related deaths during the same time. Narrowing down to the actual figure of live case, UP is throbbing with 2,758 active patients to date.

The figure that is corroborated from across the State, states that Agra accounts for 874, Meerut with 403, Noida with 373, Lucknow with 349, Kanpur with 339, Ghaziabad with 266, Saharanpur with 240, and Firozabad with 238.

On Thursday, the UP Additional chief secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi added that at least 26 to 27 lakh migrants have returned UP in recent weeks.

Other virus affected States, primarily Kerala, and Odisha, that witnessed a spike in fresh COVID-19 cases owes to the return of natives from overseas or other States.

The drive to bring back migrant workers will be closed in a couple of days as it is majorly accomplished.

The official reportedly they are informed by other States that no or very few people left who needed to be sent back.

"The entire campaign of bringing back migrants through trains and buses will end in next two to three days. Till now, 26 to 27 lakh migrants have returned,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information) Awanish Kumar Awasthi was quoted as saying to reporters.

He said states like Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Telengana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Haryana have told them that they need no or only a few persons left to be sent back to UP.

Till now, 1,411 trains have arrived within the state and within the next a couple of days, their number will rise to 1,551, he said, adding now only trains from Maharashtra and a few southern states are coming to UP.

The data reveals that around 490 trains have arrived from Gujarat, 327 from Maharashtra, 228 from Punjab, 94 from Delhi, 53 from Karnataka, and 33 from Rajasthan.
