The first plasma bank in the state (West Bengal) was inaugurated at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital with the help of patients infected with Coronavirus. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday inaugurated the Plasma Bank from the Nabanna Assembly Hall.

According to the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee), 12 of the patients who have recovered from corona so far have donated their plasma to the bank for the treatment of other corona patients. "The state health department has set up a plasma bank in the immunohematology department of Kolkata Medical College and Hospital," Mamata told a press conference at the secretariat. This plasma bank is first in the state and second in the country. A plasma bank was also recently set up at the Liver and Biliary Sciences Institute (ILBS) in Delhi.

In the meantime, some hospitals in the country have started giving plasma therapy to Covid-19 patients. Plasma therapy is the treatment of other corona patients with antibodies that are made in the blood of people who have recovered after coronary heart disease.

Calcutta Medical College and Hospital will be the nodal center of the state for plasma collection. Among the 12 people who have donated plasma in the state are doctors, police and students who have recovered from Corona.

Besides, the Chief Minister also announced that the state government would set up an excellence center at Beleghata ID Hospital with the help of infectious diseases.

The number of Covid-19 victims is increasing in the state as well as in the rest of the country. In the last 24 hours, 61 people have been infected with corona in Bengal. So far, a total of 22,97 people have been affected in the state. However, the number of active corona patients is 6,693. The 22 people who died anew on Monday all died of coma, the health department said. In all, a total of 69 corona patients have died in the state so far. On Monday, 524 people were declared completely healthy. In the last 24 hours, a total of 10,919 corona tests have been done in the state.

Meanwhile, the Central Government is going to reduce the number of special trains in West Bengal in compliance with the demands of the state. Trains from most of the corona-affected states of the country will now run once a week to West Bengal. Sources said that the new system will be launched from July 10.

The number of Corona cases in Bengal is increasing by leaps and bounds. Last Sunday, the statistics reached the highest level in terms of those killed and injured in one day. To date, a total of 22,126 people in the state have been diagnosed with the deadly virus. Meanwhile, the total number of deaths in Corona in the state has risen to 656.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed the Centre's move to increase the number of Corona cases in the state. He complained that with the arrival of special trains and flights to Bengal from other states, the number of victims in the state was increasing exponentially. This is because the concerned authorities are not abiding by the protocol that was laid down for domestic flights and special trains. As a result, people affected by Corona from other states are moving to the state without any hindrance. That is why the incidence of infection is increasing in this state. A letter was sent to the center from Nabanna.

Responding to the state government's request, the central government has decided not to land any flights at Kolkata airport from a total of six cities in the country most affected by the Corona from July 8. The six 'banned' cities include Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad. Similarly, the number of special trains from these cities has been reduced to one a week.

The West Bengal Government has taken several steps to contain the continuous mount of COVID cases in the State. Besides , opening of Plasma Bank, the Infectious Diseases hospital in Kolkata will be made as Centre of Excellence . The School of Tropical Medicine will also be upgraded with required infrastructure to deal with the situation. Meanwhile , the spread of infection continues to be unabated. Another 861 people were tested positive for Corona positive and 22 people died of the infection in the last 24 hours. The rate of recovery stands at 66 percent in the State.
