8 Effective home remedies for bleeding gums

Oral hygiene involves many things other than brushing. Not taking care of oral hygiene might invite various oral issues and bleeding gum is one of such. Here are some effective home remedies for the same.

For most of us, oral hygiene is just brushing our teeth. But in reality, it is not so. Oral hygiene involves many things other than brushing. We brush our teeth but what about gums and tongue. These are also important parts of oral hygiene that need to be taken care of. These are often neglected. Not taking care of these might invite various problems like bleeding gums, swollen gums, gingivitis, etc.

Gum bleeding is very common. The reasons may vary from person to person. Bleeding gums are mainly because of hard brushing or rough toothbrush bristles or it can be the result of some underlying medical issue that requires consideration. Any kind of damage or injury to the gums results in swollen gums. Gingivitis can also be the reason behind swollen gums. Malnutrition, dry mouth, pregnancy, and even dental appliances can manifest this. There are several home remedies that can help prevent inflammation and bleeding of gums.

Clove – This is the very first home remedy we do for inflammation and bleeding of gums. Take a small amount of clove oil and rub it onto the gums, you will feel a slight burning sensation but will help in treating the condition. Otherwise, you can also chew just one or two pieces of clove.

Aloe vera – As it possesses anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, that is very much helpful in bleeding gums and swollen gums. Massage the aloe vera gel into the gums for 1-2 minutes, rinse out with plain lukewarm water. Repeat the process 2-3 times a day for desired results.

Warm saline rinses – Gargling with lukewarm water and a pinch of salt added to it is very useful in treating gum problems. You can do it twice or thrice a day.

Oil pulling – Rinse your mouth with coconut or sesame oil, swish it inside your mouth. This will prevent any kind of infection due to harmful growth. 

Regular brushing and flossing – Brushing your teeth twice daily and doing flossing once a day can help prevent gums and teeth problems. Flossing is often neglected but both are a part of oral hygiene.

Fruits and vegetables – Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables are good for healthy gums. These are full of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals with no calories. Chewing raw fruits and vegetables in a kind of massages the gums improves blood circulation and prevents oral problems.

Vitamin C – Consuming foods rich in vitamin C can help reduce inflammation of gums. Fruits like amla, lemon are high in vitamin C. You can consume either on a daily basis.

Quitting smoking – Tobacco is very harmful to oral health. Smoking has many harmful effects on your entire body, it can destroy your lungs. Smoking results in the building up of plaque which further causes gum bleeding. Therefore, quit smoking.
