Role of sugar in high blood pressure

Consuming too much sugar can affect the blood vessels. It is advisable to consume less sugar and salt with healthy diet. Let us know in detail about the role of sugar in blood pressure.

Sodium (salt) is considered the cause of high blood pressure, but do you know that consuming too much sugar can also increase the problem of high blood pressure. Consuming too much sugar can affect the production of nitric oxide in the blood vessels. Nitric oxide in general helps with vasodilation (dilation of blood vessels). Lack of nitric oxide can constrict blood vessels, increasing the risk of high blood pressure.

Role of sugar in high blood pressure

As we have already told you, people generally consider salt to be harmful to blood pressure. However, sugar causes high blood pressure and is a major cardiac issue. Fructose, a type of simple sugar, increases the level of uric acid in the blood and inhibits the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps maintain flexibility in blood vessels, so when nitric oxide levels are low, your blood pressure can rise. In addition, excessive consumption of sugar can lead to weight gain and can also trigger high blood pressure.

Processed food is high in sugar. It can be more harmful than the usual sweetener. In comparison, the sweeteners present in fruits and milk are less harmful. Sugar intake can actually increase salt sensitivity, magnifying the negative effects of sodium on blood pressure.

Hyperinsulinemia

Hyperinsulinemia occurs when the level of insulin is high in the body. Insulin is a hormone that controls sugar. This causes responsible for type 2 diabetes. This condition develops when the body becomes less sensitive to insulin and cannot effectively use it to convert sugar into energy.

Insulin resistance

Insulin resistance may cause cardiac issues and high blood pressure. With insulin resistance, your body has great difficulty using glucose for energy. In this condition, there is an excess production of insulin by the pancreas. This can cause high blood pressure. Along with this, there is also a risk of heart disease.

Nitric oxide

Nitric oxide produced by the inner layer of blood vessel cells relaxes the inner muscles of blood vessels and helps them open. This increases blood flow and controls high blood pressure. With aging, there may be a decrease in the production of nitric oxide in cells. Inflammation of the blood vessels and the problem of atherosclerosis can increase.

Diet for Diabetes

  1. To deal with the problem of high blood pressure, you should consume more fruits and vegetables.
  1. Also, consume more amount of water so that it helps in opening the blood vessels.
  1. Consume low-fat dairy products and do not include spicy things in your diet.
  1. Nuts and whole grains are very healthy because they have high fiber and control sugar levels
  1. Avoid saturated and trans fats, sodium, red meat, and sweets
