Minister of Health Hala Zayed reviewed recently the outcomes of the 100 Million Health Initiative and discussed putting forward more initiatives in 2020, according to state-owned Al-Ahram.

During a cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Zayed said the ministry had established 1,340 health units in 27 governates amid an initiative to detect and treat hearing loss among new-borns.

Since its launch, the initiative has examined 219,918 new-borns from the age of one day to 28 days old.

On the presidential initiative to shorten the waiting list for state-funded surgeries, Zayed revealed that 334,339 operations were carried out until 24 December, including catheter operations, heart surgeries, brain and nerve surgeries, orthopaedics, oncological surgeries, and vascular surgeries.

Regarding the Women’s Health Initiative, the minister said that the initiative aims to continue examinations and raising awareness on non-communicable diseases.

Zayed added that the initiative also includes a significant database for reproductive health, working women, and family planning methods. The initiative is also working on reducing breast cancer mortality via early detection.

Zayed also addressed new initiatives that the ministry is planning for 2020. The initiatives include the treatment of nephropathy, early detection of renal failure, and reducing rates of renal failure occurrence.

Zayed also highlighted the significance of the newly-launched “Health of Pregnant Women” initiative for early diagnosis and treatment.
