The Supreme Court urgently asked for the status report from the Centre on the measures taken in view of the humongous exodus of labourers amid the COVID-19 outbreak and the implied lock down across the nation. The Apex court states that this migration of panic-stricken labourers is now a bigger issue than the COVID-19. Further, the top court said that it would not add to the confusion by issuing any direction to the measures government is already taking to control the situation. It would wait for the status report from the government till Tuesday before passing any direction following two independent PIL filed on labourer’s migration. Solicitor for the Centre, General Tushar Mehta, is of the view that migration needs to be stopped to arrest the spread of the virus and, Centre and the States together taking the necessary steps to deal with it.
