A thyroid disorder is a hormonal disturbance of the thyroid gland in the body. They are either produced excessively or under. The condition disrupts the normal functioning of the internal system, leading to symptoms like insomnia, weight loss, irritability and others. It can be managed by taking medications regularly. Untreated thyroid levels may lead to heart, nerve and fertility-related issues. The betterment of health lies in taking medicine at the right time in the right quantity.

Unlike most medicines thyroid medicines need to be taken early in the morning on an empty stomach. Taking these medicines post-meal will delay the absorption and will become ineffective.

Basic things to be taken care of

Consistency plays a crucial role when it comes to thyroid medications. It is recommended to take these medicines at the same time daily. These thyroid medicines need to be taken 30-60 minutes prior to breakfast with plain water and no milk or coffee. Thyroid medicine should not be taken along with any other medicines. If you have to take any other medicine in the morning, take them at a gap of 30-60 minutes. If the patient forgets to take the medicine, there is no harm. They should make sure to take it the next day without fail.  Thyroid medications should not be taken on alternative days; hence it is strictly not recommended.   Taking medication regularly as prescribed by your doctor is the only way to manage the condition. Taking it incorrectly will lead to an imbalance in thyroid level and will flare up the symptoms, leading to several health issues.  Thyroid doses change from time to time over the lifespan depending on the person’s condition. At different times you may need different medications. One might need to take medications throughout life.
