This program is set to empower Bihar’s people, creating a pathway to long-term prosperity and a better quality of life for generations to come.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently set Bihar on a transformational path by laying the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Darbhanga and launching a series of major infrastructure projects. This significant investment, valued at Rs 12,000 crore, is not just a milestone for Bihar’s healthcare and infrastructure but also reflects a larger commitment to improving the quality of life in the state.

From new highways to pipelines for clean energy, these initiatives cover a broad spectrum of development. The establishment of AIIMS Darbhanga is especially anticipated to bring high-quality healthcare to Bihar, offering specialized medical services that were previously out of reach for many in the state. With new roads, railway projects, and the extension of gas distribution networks, this program promises a new chapter of growth and prosperity for Bihar.

One of the central pieces of this development drive is the foundation stone for AIIMS Darbhanga. This advanced medical institution will not only be a hospital but a hub of comprehensive healthcare services and medical education. AIIMS Darbhanga will house a super-specialty hospital, an AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) block, medical and nursing colleges, residential complexes, and even a night shelter for patients and their families. Once completed, AIIMS Darbhanga will elevate the quality of healthcare in Bihar and its surrounding regions, providing tertiary medical services that were previously limited in the state.

The Prime Minister emphasized how this AIIMS branch would fill a critical gap, making advanced healthcare more accessible and cutting the need for patients to travel to other states. It is expected to lead to better health outcomes, quicker diagnosis, and access to skilled medical professionals within Bihar itself. The addition of a nursing college and a dedicated medical college is another game-changer, as it will foster a new generation of healthcare professionals trained within the state.

An extensive set of highway projects worth Rs 5,070 crore were also launched by the Prime Minister, further expanding the state’s infrastructure backbone. These new highway developments aim to improve road connectivity, cut travel time, and enhance the transportation of goods, thus positively impacting trade and commerce.

The flagship project within this highway push is the four-lane Galgalia-Araria section of National Highway 327E. This segment will provide an alternative route from Araria to West Bengal via Galgalia, alleviating traffic and creating smoother access between Bihar and its neighbouring state. The improved road infrastructure is anticipated to facilitate faster and more efficient trade routes, potentially boosting economic activity within Bihar and with bordering states.

Additionally, PM Modi laid the groundwork for eight other National Highway projects. This includes the two-lane Ramnagar to Rosera road, which will enhance local connectivity, and the Bihar-West Bengal border to Manihari section of National Highway 131A, which will connect smaller towns and villages to more urbanized areas. The Hajipur to Bachhwara section, once complete, is expected to streamline transportation for both daily commuters and commercial vehicles, easing logistics challenges in the region.

Beyond roads, PM Modi also emphasized the role of the railway sector in Bihar’s transformation. With investments over Rs 1,740 crore, he laid the foundation for projects designed to streamline train travel across the state. One of the most anticipated projects is the Sonenagar Bypass Railway Line, which will help in easing the traffic load and increase the efficiency of railway operations.

The Darbhanga Bypass Railway Line is another key project under this initiative, specifically aimed at relieving congestion at the Darbhanga Junction. This bypass line will allow for smoother and faster rail services, particularly for passengers and freight moving through Darbhanga. The improved railway network will make it easier for residents of Darbhanga and surrounding areas to travel within Bihar and beyond, fostering closer economic and social connections with other parts of India.

In addition, the Jhanjharpur-Laukaha Bazar rail section will further expand the connectivity network, making remote parts of Bihar more accessible. For people in rural and suburban regions, enhanced rail connectivity is often a lifeline, improving access to essential services, education, and jobs in more urbanized areas.

The development program also included major initiatives in the petroleum and natural gas sectors worth Rs 4,020 crore. Among these, the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network is a cornerstone project aimed at delivering piped natural gas to households across five districts—Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar. This expansion will provide cleaner, safer energy for cooking and heating needs, reducing dependency on more polluting fuel sources.

By promoting piped natural gas, the CGD network will make energy more efficient, convenient, and sustainable. Households, commercial establishments, and industries in these districts will now have access to cleaner energy, potentially improving the quality of life and helping businesses operate more sustainably.

To support industrial growth and reduce dependency on imported bitumen, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for a new Bitumen Manufacturing Facility at the Barauni Refinery. Bitumen, commonly used in road construction, is essential for infrastructure projects. By producing it domestically, the Barauni Refinery will reduce India’s reliance on imports, lower construction costs, and ensure a steady supply for future road projects. This new facility, developed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited, is expected to provide a local boost to the petroleum industry while supporting India’s infrastructure goals.

This ambitious series of projects marks a defining moment for Bihar’s growth story. Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on these multi-faceted developments highlights the central government’s commitment to transforming Bihar into a state that not only offers quality healthcare and connectivity but also fosters a sustainable lifestyle through cleaner energy options.

With each sector like health, transportation, energy receiving a substantial push, the program is designed to create a ripple effect that stimulates economic activity, attracts investment, and creates job opportunities. The construction of AIIMS Darbhanga alone is expected to create a significant number of jobs, both during construction and in medical and support services once the facility is operational. Improved highways and rail networks will open up economic opportunities in underdeveloped areas, facilitating the movement of goods and people. Clean energy access through CGD and the new bitumen facility are further expected to support growth in a sustainable manner, making Bihar a model for integrated, balanced development.

Prime Minister Modi’s Rs 12,000 crore development plan for Bihar isn’t just an investment in physical infrastructure; it’s a vision for a more connected, healthier, and environmentally sustainable state. The upcoming AIIMS Darbhanga promises to revolutionize healthcare, while new highways and railways will enhance the ease of doing business and improve residents’ quality of life. Clean energy initiatives further reinforce the state’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, aligning with India’s broader goals for sustainable development.

As these projects come to fruition, Bihar stands on the brink of a major transformation. The Prime Minister’s investment is a clear signal that Bihar’s growth and development are priorities on the national agenda. With a commitment to improving infrastructure, healthcare, and energy access, this program is set to empower Bihar’s people, creating a pathway to long-term prosperity and a better quality of life for generations to come.

This grand-scale vision for Bihar reflects not only the promise of progress but also the potential for Bihar to become a model of balanced development, integrating technology, infrastructure, and social wellbeing. The foundation stones laid today are just the beginning of a new chapter, one that has the potential to reshape Bihar’s destiny and inspire hope across the state.
