Are E-cigarettes Safe To Use? An Evidence-Based Study about Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS)

Let’s not forget that tobacco and nicotine in any form are harmful to health. The new Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) commonly known as e-cigarettes are creating hype among the younger generation. Let’s know the facts about e-cigarettes and limit their use it.

We all are aware of the clear risk of tobacco use, but still millions of people around the globe continue to smoke. Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) commonly known as e-cigarettes have been proposed as a substitute for those who are unwilling and unable to quit. It is important to know the health effects of E-cigarettes on respiratory and cardiovascular health. There are 1.3 billion people worldwide who use tobbacco regularly. Up to 11.5% of global mortality is linked to smoking. Smoking has pleasureable effects and emotional regulation effects. For those who want to quit, it becomes difficult for them to work on the same.

All you need to know about Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS)

Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) commonly known as e-cigarettes are introduced as a substitute these days. A review by the US National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicines states, “There is substantial evidence that except for nicotine, exposure to potentially toxic substances from e-cigarettes is significantly lower with combustible tobbacco cigarettes. There has been increasing in the use of e-cigarettes from 2011 to 2018 extending up to 41 million around the globe. Many clinicians want to know whether e-cigarettes are marginally safer

Difference between the normal cigarette and e-cigarettes

Finding the real-life effects of the Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) on cardiovascular and respiratory health is quite complex. The complexity is mainly to the difference in the composition of the products varying in nicotine concentrations and varying degrees of levels of exposure.

Evidence-based study for Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS)

A systematic review was conducted to critically assess and synthesize the human studies on respiratory and cardiovascular effects of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS). The primary goal was to provide clinicians with the correct evidence on the health effects of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) substitution for people who smoke so that correct treatment can be given to them. A secondary goal is to provide a policy brief to the governmental bodies about the public health impact on the population who smokes Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS). According to the studies, it was noted that Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) had a less negative impact on the health of individuals as compared to the normal cigarette.

The US Centers of Disease and Center of Control and Prevention advice on Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS)

The US Centers of Disease and Center of Control and Prevention says that e-cigarettes potentially help adult smokers if they completely substitute the devices of tobacco products. But the CDC informs and says that it still remains unclear if e-cigarettes help smokers to quit smoking. It also warns that the products are not safe for teens, pregnant ladies, young adults, and non-smokers.

How Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) or e-cigarettes work?

E-cigarettes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. These devices are commonly used in western countries for a couple of years. But for the last few years, people in Mumbai are commonly using these e-cigarettes. It is considered to be less harmful the conventional smoking cigarettes. E-cigarettes are tobacco-free with replaceable cartridges which hold liquid containing nicotine, solvents, and flavors.

Effects on health

E-cigarettes contain fewer toxic elements and carcinogens. But the craze and hype among the younger generation can lead to excessive and uncontrolled use of e-cigarettes. Let’s not forget that e-cigarettes increase the chances of smoking conventional cigarettes when you get addicted to them. Inhaling e-cigarettes which rechargeable batteries and devices are also known as “Vaping”. Various studies have been published in regards to e-cigarettes. Let’s not forget that the use of tobacco or nicotine in any form can cause harmful effects on the body.
