Relaxation of lockdown restrictions during festive season COVID task force wants BMC should increase the COVID test to 20,000 per day. Though the city is witnessing a dip in the daily cases, however, due to the festive season BMC should follow a more aggressive strategy to keep the situation under control.
Dr Sanjay Oak, head of the COVID task force recommended that per day no testing should be increased, testing kiosks made available at the various part of the city. A drive-in testing facility for COVID-19 has to be arranged. State Govt should take initiative to distribute free masks through the kiosks or fix a nominal price for the masks.
On the other hand, BMC has also confirmed that they have increased the testing facility from 13,000 to 20,000 per day. Last 2 weeks BMC is conducting 20,000 tests in a day.
Dr Oak has further suggested that citizens that to curb the infection we must not gather during festivals not even in a small group. Masking, proper sanitization, and follow social distancing are the only means to avoid this infection.
In a meeting municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal has instructed to meet daily targets of testing. He has confirmed that a mix of RT-PCR and antigen tests is the BMC's current testing strategy.
