Talented artists and designers from the Foundation will paint the corridors and rooms of these sections with colourful and lively sketches that will transform the hospital with a livelier environment that offers hope and joy to the little ones.

Eshraqa, the Social Development Arm of Khimji Ramdas recently initiated a project with “Paint A Smile” Foundation, Switzerland to decorate the Paediatric Oncology-Haematology ward and its Out-Patient Department (OPD) at the Royal Hospital. The initiative aims to reduce the level of anxiety and the trauma the young patients experience while going through hospitalisation and vigorous treatments. Talented artists and designers from the Foundation will paint the corridors and rooms of these sections with colourful and lively sketches that will transform the hospital with a livelier environment that offers hope and joy to the little ones.

Speaking on the fruitful partnership, Nailesh Khimji, Director at Khimji Ramdas said, “While hospitals offer advanced physical care for the patients, people tend to focus less on the patient’s mental health which is dealing with the trauma of disease, hospitalisation and treatments. These beautiful paintings will soon offer support by initiating stories and laughter while making these spaces more familiar and inspire children as well as adults to cope with stress better.”

Since its inception in 2000, the non-profit organisation “Paint A Smile” Foundation, has defined its mission to create positivity and optimise stays in healthcare environments. The team works closely with doctors and other healthcare professionals to create a therapeutic support atmosphere that directly impacts the patient’s psychological health, offering relief and stimulation. The Foundation has decorated 193 healthcare units in 18 countries around the world.

Dr. Suad Al Kharousi, Head of the National Oncology Centre, Royal Hospital praised Eshraqa’s efforts. She said, “Eshraqa has taken a great initiative towards the improvement of the internal atmosphere in the Children Pediatric Oncology-Haematology & OPD Ward. The team undertook an in-depth study to understand the heritage and traditions of the Omani society and come up with ideas and design that translate into beautiful drawings. The artists who use psychology along with painting skills will contribute to alleviating children’s trauma of hospitalization. This will help both parents and the medical specialists in getting closer to children and making it easier in terms of giving them the best medical care and treatment. We thank Eshraqa for taking the lead, and appeal to our partners in the government and private institutions and individuals to support more such initiatives in the future.”
