Ginger is a common treatment for stomach upset. Evidence is there that it is helpful. In lab and animal research, ginger has been found to theoretically reduce inflammation, blood sugar, cholesterol. Ginger may protect against Alzheimer's disease and prevent blood clots. Evidence of human trials shows that ginger can lower blood pressure and blood sugar. There can be side effects in some situations.

It has the natural properties of reducing blood sugar levels. But for those using insulin or metformin for diabetes, prescription medicine may lessen the effectiveness. If you are taking medicine, always discuss the quantity to be taken with the doctor, or else your blood sugar may drop too low.

Pregnant women should be careful with ginger - Experts have some concerns that it may increase the risk of miscarriage especially if the dose is too high.
