Gorging on anything and everything after breaking the karwachauth fast can put your digestive health in trouble. Here are some healthy ideas to break your fast.

This year the karwachauth is being observed on 13th October. Karwachauth also known as Karak Chaturthi is the fourth day of the moon’s waning phase in the month of Kartik. On this day, mostly Hindu women of Northern and Western India observe nirjala fast from sunrise to moonrise, dress up festively, apply henna on their hands, do their puja, and break the fast upon seeing the moon. Women fasts for their spouse’s long life and good health. They start their day after having sargi in the pre-dawn hours and then not having anything till moonrise, not even water. The fast can get hectic for pregnant, sick, and elderly women, hence they are advised not to observe it.

After fasting the full day long, women might feel to eat whatever comes their way but this can put them in trouble. They must be careful about their food choices as it can affect their digestive health. Here are some ideas that they can give a try.

Break your karwachauth fast with healthy food choices

Drink enough water – By evening the body will get dehydrated, so keep a bottle ready. You can also have coconut water or lime juice to replenish electrolytes in your body.

Well-balanced meal – After a full day fast, the body needs essential nutrients. Ensure that your post-vrat dinner thali contains the source of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. It is essential for energy restoration.

Dry fruits and nuts – They are high in protein and fiber. They are an excellent source of energy. You can have some walnuts, almonds, and cashews. This will help you sustain energy levels that do not get metabolized too soon like simple carbohydrates.

Avoid fried foods – Loading your tummy with heavy foods can upset your digestive health. Hence, fried foods are a clear No. Have something that is light on your tummy to get it going.

Caffeinated drinks should be avoided – Drinking tea or coffee can result in stomach acidity. Eating healthier and lighter food can help to balance everything.
