The cataract surgeries in question were conducted on 79 patients at Choithram Netralaya in Indore under the National Programme for Control of Blindness on March 20. Dr. Pradeep Goyal, the manager of the District Blindness Control Society, confirmed the initiation of a probe by a three-member committee to ascertain the reasons behind the observed side-effects among these patients. He emphasized that it’s currently challenging to determine whether these patients have suffered permanent damage to their eyesight, highlighting the need for a comprehensive investigation.

The hospital’s managing trustee, Ashwini Verma, denied any negligence on the part of the hospital, attributing the patients reactions to unknown factors. He assured that all affected individuals received appropriate treatment and were subsequently discharged from the hospital.
