Around 255 people are arrested on Monday, in Kolkata for defying the prohibitory orders that ensued the complete lockdown in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Soon after the lockdown came into effect at 5 pm these many people were nabbed violating the orders and the officials said that they would be prosecuted under sections dealing with disobedience to order. Checkings at every naka are initiated at every important junction of the city, officials said. To prevent further spread, the lockdown is implemented till March 27, as of now.

Anuj Sharma, Kolkata's commissioner of police, urged people to stay at home and cooperate with the administration in maintaining law and order.
