Home based dialysis is gaining popularity

▴ Home based dialysis
Patients are opting for it as it reduces hospital visits and chances of hospital acquired diseases.

Home healthcare is fast becoming a preferred option, especially when it comes to people suffering from End Stage Kidney Diseases (ESKD). According to Pradhan Mantri national Dialysis Programme, 2.2 lakh people in India get affected by ESKD and who are on dialysis or in line for kidney transplant.

Home based dialysis enables patients to undergo more frequent dialysis. Visiting the hospital, the process can take anywhere from two hours to ten hours. The patient is also expected to visit hospital almost on a daily basis. Home based dialysis helps patients to experience home comfort and continue working while on treatment. Patients who are very old, physically handicapped or someone who got into an accident benefit the most from home based dialysis.

Water quality is very important factor when it comes to dialysis. Whenever hemodialysis is conducted at home, it is done by setting up a RO plant and the same machines that are there in hospitals. This makes it a luxury for people which not everyone can afford.
