As 42-year-old Virar man died of Coronavirus in a Mumbai hospital Palghar district admin promptly declared over 70 areas as containment zones. The death toll in Vasai-Virar rise to six after the deceased, who worked for a private brokering firm in Santacruz, passed away in a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday.
The man was tested positive on April 10 is suspected to have contracted the virus from an office colleague. He was having high fever and he got himself tested for Coronavirus on April 9. His family and acquaintances are identified and quarantined.
Dr. Kailash Shinde, district collector cordoned off 30 areas in Vasai-Virar declaring them as the red zone. Residential areas like Evershine City, Gokul Township and Yeshwant Viva Township are named containment zones. Over 40 areas in rural Palghar, including tribal hamlets, are named containment zones. Entry and exit from such areas are strictly restricted.
The district thus far recorded 116 positive cases, including seven fatalities. Most cases and deaths (97) reported are from Vasai-Virar. Reports of 818 persons are awaited, while 1,359 tested negative and 18 were discharged. In Mira-Bhayander, eight positive cases were reported, taking the total to 114.
