Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai specializes as Diabetologist. He has an overall experience of 38 years. He has completed his MBBS and MD from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer in 1983 and 1986. He practices at Diabetes Care Clinic in Janakpuri, Delhi.

Causes of diabetes

Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai says, “There are two types of diabetes- 

Type 1 Diabetes - This is seen in children and is an autoimmune disorder. There is damage to pancreatic cells and needs insulin injections to keep them stable. 

Type 2 Diabetes has many causes which are seen in adults- 

  • Hormonal changes
  • Drug-induced 
  • Lifestyle changes 
  • Irregular diet trend
  • Outside food 
  • Sedentary lifestyle 
  • Lack of exercise

These are the main causes of diabetes.”

Benefits of walking for diabetes

Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai informs, “Healthy lifestyle with good sleep and wake cycle along with walking is very important. Brisk walking for 45 mins can control and prevent diabetes. This is a 50 % solution to complications of diabetes. Regular exercise like yoga, meditation, playing, walking or swimming is a good way to keep sugar levels in control.”

Diabetes and fatal rate 

Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai states, “Diabetes can increase the fatality rate with complications. If diabetes is controlled, then it can cause complications. Diabetes is a dormant disease and should not be triggered may cause damage to the kidney, heart, or brain. If it attacks any part of the body, it can cause great damage. If diabetes increases or decreases below the normal average level, the patient can go into a state of coma. So, it is important to control the blood sugar level at 100 - 150 to prevent complications.”

Permanent cure for diabetes

Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai says, “There is control for diabetes. But there is no permanent cure for diabetes. We can control and manage diabetes but cannot cure it. 

Tips to control diabetes

Dr. Ajit Singh Ghai says, “There are certain tips through which diabetes can be controlled which are as follows- 

  • Control weight 
  • Exercise 
  • Give up on addictions like smoking, alcohol, and tobacco 
  • Diet control 
  • Avoid carbs and sugars
  • Avoid cold drinks and cakes
  • Avoid oily fried foods 
  • Eat healthy green leafy vegetables and sprouts 
  • Take medicines regularly.
