When Ayurveda meets gynaecology - Gynoveda

Ask any stranger abroad about India and the first thing that will pop in their mind is Yoga. The wisdom of yoga has been in India for centuries. Now the very same ancient wisdom is benefitting the entire world. Yet another source of ancient medical wisdom has not made its mark globally, or even in India. This is Ayurveda. Where the benefits of yoga are being widely acknowledged, the same belief in Ayurveda solutions is missing.

In 2018, the entire Ayurveda market was estimated to be at Rs 300 billion. The major category under this was the beauty and wellness industry followed by the food industry. Seeing Ayurveda as a branch of medicine is still not that widespread. Yet one man discovered the benefits of Ayurveda by himself.

The former Business Head of Jio and Vice-President of ClearTrip found himself battling with psoriasis, a skin disorder. After all allopathy solutions failed, Vishal Gupta turned to Ayurveda. Within 60 days his skin disorder disappeared. This pushed him and his wife, Rachana Gupta to devour scriptures after scriptures of Ayurveda. The couple found that 20 solutions to various gynaecological disorders have already been addressed.

This pushed the couple to start their own venture in 2019 named Gynoveda in Mumbai. The digital venture helps women detect their reproductive and menstrual problems with their AI-bot named MenoBot. Globally 600 million women who suffer from menstrual problems will not visit a gynaecologist for fear of being judged. MenoBot bridges the gap by offering AI help. After women fill the survey found on their platform, the bot detects and gives them the answer to their ailments within 3 minutes.

The bot helps women detect their menstrual health and offers Ayurveda-based remedies for PCOS, heavy bleeding and even cramps. Early intervention in such cases can help the women reduce the risk of developing diabetes (as is common in PCOD), extra weight gain and infertility.

The business started with self-investment of $2 million from the duo itself. They later received early-stage investment of $1 million from Fireside Ventures. They plan to expand their venture to reach women outside of tier 1 Indian cities. Will Gynoveda be able to spread the knowledge of Ayurveda to the masses?
