Blood donation is not only important for a healthy life but also a very noble cause that can help the needy get blood to incase of an emergency or crisis. So, take this step towards a noble cause and also know the benefits of blood donation for a healthy lifestyle

Every year 14 th June 2021 is observed as World Blood donor Day. The theme for World Blood Donor Day is “Give blood and Keep the World Beating” We should educate the people about the importance of blood donation. Understanding the aspect of blood donation is very important to lead a healthy life. 

Know all about Blood Donation 

Blood Donation is an incredibly noble cause. There are numerous reasons why one should donate blood at regular intervals. It is not just an act for self-benefit but also for saving someone’s life. However, there are certain things you should keep in mind before donating blood. Whether you are donating blood for the first time or you have done it before, you should remember some key facts before you go ahead with it. Everyone cannot donate blood. You need to make sure that you are healthy enough to donate blood. So step ahead to do this noble cause that can help people. 

Eligibility for Blood Donation 

You should remember certain points and always keep them in mind before you donate blood. For new blood donors, the minimum age for blood donation in India is 18 years. This age has been set throughout the world to ensure that people have no health concerns when they decide to donate blood. There is no upper limit for age or threshold limit for blood donation. Here are some guidelines that you should note before you make a final decision to donate blood. 

Minimum age:18 years  You must weigh 50kg  Your blood pressure must read at 120/80 mm of hg  You should not have any health diseases or illnesses.  If you are suffering from a cold, cough, or fever, make sure to treat and resolve it before you do a blood donation.  In the case of chronic diseases, blood donations should not be made.  You should not be suffering from any communicable diseases like Tb, STD, syphilis and gonorrhea  For female blood donor, it is important to note that they should be menstruating or pregnant during the blood donation

Blood donation improves cardio-vascular health incredibly by improving the flow of blood to the heart and maintaining a healthy heart. 

Respiratory problems 

Blood donation helps in improving respiratory diseases by increasing the oxygenated blood flow to the lungs

Blood donation is a great way to detoxify yourself and remove the impure blood which is replaced by healthy. This is a good activity to keep your lifestyle healthy 

Mental satisfaction 

Blood donation gives you a sense of satisfaction elevating your mental health and makes you feel content. This effort to do a noble cause can help society with your immense contribution. Blood donation may not give you any award but gives a sense of accomplishment which is more than an award. 

Tips for Blood Donation 

Take steps to ensure that you are in the best of health before you go ahead with the blood donation act 

Keep these tips in mind when you have decided to donate blood. Follow these for a couple of days before and after blood donation:

Drink a lot of water  Eat healthy nutritious meals Avoid fatty, unhealthy, and junk food  Avoid alcohol and smoking  Sleep well a night before donating blood  Make sure you are calm and relaxed  If you are a platelet donor, do not take aspirins a couple of days before donating blood  Consult your doctor before blood donation  After and before blood donation, eat iron-rich food  If you are female, check your ferritin and hemoglobin levels before donating blood.
