4 Most common winter disease – Symptoms and prevention tips

Winter is loved by most people. A sudden drop in temperature could lead to several health issues of the skin and respiratory infections. Here are some common winter ailments and their prevention tips

As the weather changes, people with lower immunity often get sick. Children and the elderly population are the ones who are at higher risk because winter is often accompanied by viruses and bacteria. As a precaution, let's look at the diseases that come with winter and how to protect yourself.

1. Pneumonia

– Affects lungs.

Symptoms - Chest tightness, wheezing, cough with sputum, high fever. It is often found in patients with respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic lung disease patients.

Prevention - Take good health care so as not to catch a cold and the flu. Influenza vaccine is another way to prevent pneumonia.

2. Common cold

– It occurs every season in persons with weak bodies. But during winters, the chance of getting the flu doubles up. There are hundreds of viruses that can cause disease.

Symptoms - low fever, runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, throat irritation, generally resolving within 1 week.

Prevention - Maintaining adequate rest, drinking plenty of water, taking antipyretic drugs, mucus and cough suppressants. Regular exercise. Keep your body warm. Eat citrus fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C to improve immunity.

3. Influenza -

– In most cases, the disease is not very dangerous. But elderly people with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, emphysema, diabetes, and kidney failure may have complications.

Symptoms - Fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, dry cough, stuffy nose, runny nose. The symptoms generally last 7-10 days.

Prevention - Wash your hands frequently and get your annual flu vaccine. Always wear a mask while visiting someone with respiratory infections.

4. Allergy

– During winter, people with existing allergies may face tough times. Or people who are allergic to dust mites may have problematic winters.

Symptoms - Itchy nose, sneezing eyes, nasal congestion, rashes, cold-induced urticaria.

Prevention – Antihistamines

No matter what season, if we keep our body healthy with regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle, getting enough sleep, and eating a balanced diet that helps to strengthen our immune system, reduce the risk of illness.
