Many cities in India are covered with dense smog. Smog is a mixture of smoke and fog that creates a dense environment filled with pollution, toxins and dust. Breathing this air can cause one to develop many respiratory disorders, infections and diseases. It weakens the immunity and makes you a target of chronic diseases like COPD.

Even the WHO, recognizes air pollution as a major threat to health. As such it is important to protect yourself and your family from the toxins present in the air. Here are 7 ways to protect yourself.

Steam Inhalation

Steam inhalation can help you clear your nasal passage from dirt and pollution. Include this every morning or after you have spent time outdoors.

Limit outdoor activity

If possible, try and restrict your activity within the four walls of your own house. So when it comes to exercising, try and do it in your own home or at the gym. Exercising outdoors will force your body to inhale more toxic air which is detrimental to your body.

Diet

Diet can help you achieve better tools at fighting this toxic air from within. Include vitamin C rich foods as they are immune boosting. Also take foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and iron, magnesium and zinc. Eating jaggery too helps clear the toxins out of your body.

Protection

Prevention is always better than cure. To protect yourself from the toxic air, take precautions by wearing a mask. Make sure you use a better quality of masks that are P-rated, R-rated or N-rated. One can also use N95 or N99 masks.

Natural Air Purifiers

Plants have the wonderful ability to help clear the air from toxins. Plan aloe vera, spider plants, ivy and other plants in your house and offices.

Air purifiers

When it comes to children, elderly and pregnant women, take extra precautions and install air purifiers in your house.

Ventilated house

A ventilated house is essential to living healthy. Make sure you have chimneys and exhaust fans installed in your house.
