9 Home remedies to induce periods (menstruation)

Irregular periods are quite a common problem in women. To many of us, periods are coming delayed in 45-50 days whereas some are facing the problem of getting periods twice a month. Reasons for this can be anything but one thing is for sure that either of these is not good for our body. Here are some safe and natural home remedies to induce periods.

Irregular periods are quite a common problem in women. It can be due to weight loss, medical conditions, and lifestyle. This can cause severe stress and tension. Let’s discuss some safe and natural home remedies to induce periods.

Papaya - It's the most effective home remedy available to prepone the periods. Raw papaya aggravates contractions in the uterus and can help in inducing periods. The carotene present in papaya stimulates the estrogen hormone thereby inducing early periods. For this, papaya can be consumed raw or in the form of papaya juice two times a day. 

Ginger – It is one of the most powerful emmenagogues. Ginger increases the heat around the uterus, thus encouraging contraction and menstrual flow. Ginger can be consumed in the form of tea or fresh ginger juice with some honey. 

Fennel seeds – Fennel can be boiled in water to make a fragrant tea that should be consumed every morning on an empty stomach in order to regulate your period and have a healthy flow.

Sesame seeds – This can be consumed to induce your period, but they should only be eaten in moderation as they cause a lot of heat in your body. Take a teaspoon of sesame seeds two times a day with hot water.

Coriander seeds - Boil 1 tsp. of coriander with 2 cups of water and wait until the water reduces to just one cup. Use a strainer to remove the seeds and drink the concoction thrice a day for a couple of days before your monthly period.

Consumption of vitamin C-rich foods - Vitamin C can induce menses by increasing the levels of estrogen in the body. Vitamin C can also reduce progesterone levels, which initiate the breakdown of the uterine walls, leading to an early period. Eg – Kiwis, tomatoes, broccoli

Non-food options

Sex - Sexual intercourse helps contract the uterus while relaxing the vagina simultaneously and secondly hormones released by a woman's body during intercourse help induce periods. 

Hot water packs – It is used as a natural remedy to prepone the periods. Place a hot water pack or bottle on your abdomen for about 10-15 mins at a time for 2-3 times a day.

Apple cider vinegar – It can help bring periods especially when they are late. Apple cider vinegar helps by alkalizing the body and decreasing inflammation caused by hormonal irregularities. Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a warm glass of water and drink it twice a day before your meals. This might even restart your delayed periods in just one-two day.
