The emergence of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

This problem of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) was first observed in Britain. Due to this virus, more than 1 lakh children have died in the UK. This was observed in the year 2019. There have been cases emerging in India too which have got registered in different hospitals. It has been noted that this infection of RSV is more common in children who consumed bottled milk. Inflammation of the lungs in children with the RSV virus can cause many breathing problems. 

What is Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)?

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a respiratory tract infection that is commonly seen in children up to 5 years of age. Due to this infection, symptoms of pneumonia and bronchiolitis are seen in children. It has been observed that babies who drink bottled milk are at high risk of infection. This can also be fatal at times.

The main causes of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) are as follows -

  • Lung disease 
  • Cancer and chemotherapy 
  • Weakened immunity 
  • Respiratory infection 

Symptoms of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Children affected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) may show the following symptoms which are as follows - 

  • Fever 
  • Sore throat 
  • Shortness of breath 
  • Cough with expectoration 
  • Lack of oxygen supply 
  • Bluish skin 
  • Headache 
  • Nervousness due to troubled breathing

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Infection Treatment 

There is no cure for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). It has been noted that it gets resolved on its own. The treatment can be given aimed at symptomatic relief. Research is still ongoing to save people’s lives from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
