Anal fissures – Natural remedies for instant relief

The risk of developing anal fissures decreases with age however it is more common in younger age kids than adults. 90% of anal fissures cases get resolved by themselves, and only a few of them require medical treatment. Anal fissures occur as a result of tears or damage in the lining of the anus. Constipation is the most common cause of anal fissures. Frequently passing hard stools tears the anal lining. Other reasons might include diarrhea, childbirth, and pregnancy.

Natural remedies for fissures

Exercise – Exercising regularly aids to manage constipation thereby fissures. Do follow your physical routine regime on a regular basis, and go out to a gym, walk or run. Experts recommend that 150 hours of physical activity per week is necessary to keep the body healthy and going. 

Consume a fiber-rich diet – Consuming a more fiber-rich diet will help in softens the stools and relieve constipation. Fiber-rich diet includes fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and rice. Every adult should take 18 gms of fiber every day. 

Foods with high fiber content

  • Peas, lentils, and dried beans
  • Vegetables and fruits
  • Soy products and soy milk
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Whole Grain foods
  • Flaxseeds, oats, barley, and seed husks

Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Drinking sufficient water will help soften the stools and relieve constipation. Try drinking 2-2.5 liters of water every day. Keeping the body hydrated will alleviate the pain and muscle spasms around the anal region by reducing the pressure. 

Sitz bath – Sitz bath is extremely helpful in relieving anal fissures. It is nothing but a warm water bath. It should be taken for at least 20 minutes and 3-4 times a day. You can use the bathtub for a sitz bath and put in warm water. Extremely hot water should be avoided as it may cause drying. The bath should only cover the hips and buttocks area. 

Applying petroleum jelly – Applying petroleum jelly around the anal region will soothe the skin.
