PM Modi’s healthcare initiatives are a clear signal of India’s commitment to building a modern, resilient, and inclusive healthcare system.

On Dhanvantari Jayanti, a day that celebrates Ayurveda and traditional healing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to bring a transformative wave to India’s healthcare system with the announcement of a series of healthcare initiatives. Through a budget of Rs 13,000 crore, these initiatives aim to modernize healthcare services and make them accessible to all, especially the elderly and underserved regions. This monumental step is also an acknowledgment of the significance of Ayurveda and other traditional healing methods, with a focus on holistic wellness.

At the heart of this healthcare movement is the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, where PM Modi will lay the foundation for several projects and inaugurate key facilities under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). By establishing comprehensive coverage for citizens aged 70 and above, PM-JAY reaffirms India’s commitment to inclusive healthcare.

PM Modi will unveil Phase II of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, which includes a Panchakarma hospital, a specialized Ayurvedic pharmacy, and a sports medicine unit. These facilities are expected to play a significant role in providing holistic care to patients and integrating traditional and modern approaches to healing. An IT incubation centre will also be established to drive healthcare innovation and research, highlighting the critical role technology will play in transforming India’s healthcare system.

Addressing the need for accessible and advanced medical education, PM Modi’s healthcare vision includes the inauguration of three new medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh. These colleges, located in Mandsaur, Neemuch, and Seoni, are expected to produce a new generation of healthcare professionals and reduce the shortage of skilled personnel in underserved regions.

In addition to these medical colleges, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for five new nursing colleges. By enhancing nursing education, India aims to improve the quality of patient care and meet the increasing demand for skilled healthcare workers, especially in rural and remote areas.

Infrastructure development remains a priority for India’s healthcare sector, with PM Modi introducing new facilities at various All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country. Bhopal, Bilaspur, and Patna will witness expansions that cater to an increasing patient load. Notably, a new super specialty block at Bilaspur Medical College and a critical care block in Bargarh, Odisha, are also planned. These facilities will provide essential services such as advanced diagnostics, specialized surgeries, and trauma care, bridging the healthcare gap between urban and rural India.

Moreover, the establishment of 21 Critical Care Blocks across five states (Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan) under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) marks a crucial step in building resilience within the healthcare system. These blocks will serve as emergency response centres and improve the quality of healthcare delivery across a wide geographic range.

Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals play a pivotal role in offering healthcare services to India’s workforce, especially in the industrial sector. PM Modi will inaugurate an ESIC Hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, providing comprehensive healthcare services to employees and their families. Additional ESIC hospitals will be constructed in Faridabad, Bommasandra, Narasapur, Meerut, and Atchutapuram, enhancing healthcare access for India’s workers across multiple states.

For emergency healthcare, PM Modi’s initiatives include the introduction of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services from AIIMS Rishikesh. In a country where remote areas often lack rapid access to emergency care, helicopter services will provide life-saving interventions and enable faster patient transportation. Additionally, drone services at 11 tertiary healthcare institutions, including AIIMS Raipur and AIIMS Guwahati, are expected to revolutionize healthcare delivery in remote areas, with faster and safer transport of medical supplies.

PM Modi will launch the U-WIN portal, a digital solution to streamline vaccination records for pregnant women and children, ensuring better tracking of immunizations and preventive care. Additionally, a centralized portal for allied healthcare professionals will be launched to unify records and improve service standards for a range of healthcare services, from diagnostics to physiotherapy.

These portals not only improve healthcare efficiency but also highlight the government’s commitment to digitalization, enhancing transparency and accessibility across the healthcare system. For mothers and infants, in particular, the U-WIN portal will help to protect future generations through timely vaccinations and health check-ups.

With an emphasis on research and development, PM Modi will inaugurate a Central Drugs Testing Laboratory in Bhubaneswar, a significant step in quality control for pharmaceuticals. This laboratory will ensure that drugs meet stringent safety and efficacy standards, aligning with India’s goal to become a global hub for pharmaceutical production and research. Two Central Research Institutes in Yoga and Naturopathy, to be established in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, will foster research into alternative medicine, blending traditional healing techniques with modern research methodologies.

These institutes will not only contribute to scientific research but also reinforce India’s commitment to holistic health, where Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy play a crucial role.

To promote domestic manufacturing in the healthcare sector, PM Modi will inaugurate five new production facilities under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which aims to reduce dependency on imported medical devices and foster self-sufficiency in the production of high-end medical equipment. By creating indigenous manufacturing capabilities, this initiative also seeks to make healthcare more affordable for Indian citizens.

As part of a campaign to improve health literacy, PM Modi will launch the “Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan,” aimed at educating citizens on health and wellness. By fostering greater awareness, this initiative empowers citizens to take preventive measures and adopt healthier lifestyles, thus reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.

Moreover, PM Modi will unveil Action Plans on Climate Change and Human Health for each state and Union Territory, addressing the impact of climate on health. These plans will lay out adaptation strategies to create climate-resilient healthcare services, an essential step as India prepares for the health challenges posed by climate change.

PM Modi’s healthcare initiatives are a clear signal of India’s commitment to building a modern, resilient, and inclusive healthcare system. By focusing on infrastructure, technology, education, and traditional medicine, India is setting a benchmark in healthcare innovation. The initiatives under PM-JAY, PM-ABHIM, and the “Make in India” schemes are not only ambitious but also necessary for a country with a diverse population and a unique set of healthcare challenges.

As India celebrates Ayurveda and holistic wellness on Dhanvantari Jayanti, these new projects represent a blend of tradition and innovation, bringing India closer to a future where quality healthcare is accessible to every citizen. The country is moving towards a healthier tomorrow, where advanced facilities and preventive care will shape a stronger, more resilient nation.
