Can smoking harm your eyesight and vision?- Smoker's Eyes

Smoker's eyes are a very common problem in people who smoke regularly. Smoking can affect your lungs and other organs of the body. Let us know how smoking affects the eyes.

Smoking is not only harmful to our lungs but also to other parts of our bodies. Doctors say that those who do not smoke cigarettes or bidis but are in contact with it are also at risk of getting the disease.

Let us tell you that smoking cigarettes affects our eyes a lot. Symptoms such as redness of the eyes, blurred vision, reduced eyesight, and burning in the eyes are seen due to excessive consumption. Patients with high blood pressure and diabetes should not smoke at all, as it increases the level of nicotine in the blood, which is dangerous for the retina. Let us know in detail in this article how smoking affects eyesight.

Loss of eye moisture

Cigarettes contain tobacco containing nicotine. Many oxidants present in it harm the eyes. People who have always been in contact with smokers are at the same risk. Many times the eyes of non-smokers get burnt by the gulp of a cigarette or a bidi.

Smokers' eyes can be damaged by the chemicals in the toxic tobacco smoke, the conjunctival cells of the conjunctiva, which cause moisture to remain on the surface of the eye. Similarly, the carbon particles present in the smoke can accumulate on the eyelids, due to which the moisture and wetness of the eyes can end. If it persists for a long time, itchy eyes and blurred vision may occur.

Glaucoma problem

According to the report of the US Unit Surgeon General, smoking can cause many eye problems, including cataracts. People exposed to tobacco through smoking have a higher risk of developing cataracts than others. Similarly, nuclear and posterior polar types of cataracts also start happening to these people from a young age.

Macular degeneration

Several studies have shown that smokers have twice the risk of age-based macular degeneration as compared to others.

Optic neuropathy

The worst consequences of smoking are amblyopia and optic neuropathy. The nicotine present in tobacco through smoking has a deleterious effect on the cells of the retina and optic nerve. The retina and optic nerve are important for vision. Long-term smoking can cause irreparable damage to the eyes.

Smoking, diseases, and eyesight

Smokers can have problems with thyroid, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Eyesight is affected due to these diseases. Diabetic neuropathy occurs in diabetic patients, due to which the eyesight gets reduced. Patients with diabetes can also be victims of blindness.

Smoking is completely injurious to health. Both direct and indirect smoking is harmful to the eyes. Avoid going to the smoking place and say goodbye to smoking.
