Dhanvantri raths are rolled out aiming to take care of mild and moderate COVID-19 cases alongside early detection and medical assistance to comorbid patients

Led by joint secretary Lav Agarwal, the central health team that has started touring COVID-19 hotspot States with Gujarat, visited two micro-containment zones in Ahmedabad, COVID-19 control rooms, one private and one government COVID hospitals, and met Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, his deputy and State health minister Nitin Patel and other officials on Friday.
Reportedly told by health commissioner Jaiprakash Shivahare, who accompanied the team, visited a containment zone in the Satellite area and a number of other 'Dhanvantari raths' across the northeast zone of Gota and Ghatlodia and central zone area of Shahpur.
These specially designed Dhanvantri raths are sized as vans, equipped with a doctor, paramedical staff, and a pharmacist. These vans are rolled aiming to take care of mild and moderate COVID-19 cases alongside early detection and medical assistance to comorbid patients. Stationed for 2 hours at one location several similar vans are covering different parts across the town.

Om Prakash Machra, the deputy commissioner of health, was quoted as saying, “The team appreciated this initiative because I don’t think such an outsized scale operation has been done anywhere else.”
The team also paid a visit to another micro-containment zone near Shahibaug and took a tour of the emergency services Control rooms of 104, 108, and 1100 operating in Kathwada area.
“The idea was to ascertain the coordination in reporting of cases, surveillance, follow-ups post-discharge, and telemedicine facilities,” Shivahare reportedly said.

Apparently, this was pertinent because the 104 helplines, which earlier accustomed to seeing a reaction time of 24 hours or more, now has seen a turnaround with a mean of 90 minutes because of the reaction time.
It also surveyed the infrastructure and therefore the overall functioning of the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) building which is additionally a COVID hospital. The team was also taken to HCG Hospital, which was one of the primary private health facilities to sign an MoU with AMC for COVID-19 treatment.
“We had decided that the team must visit the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which may be a government hospital, so we wanted to showcase our public-private partnership with a visit to a personal clinic also. This helped them understand how such partnerships work and that they did mull that this is often something which will be replicated elsewhere," Machra was quoted as saying.
The visit to the hospital was then followed by a gathering at the Riverfront House with the AMC officials including zonal deputy municipal commissioners. This was the ultimate stop in Ahmedabad.
Reportedly, there was some disagreement between the team and AMC officials when the COVID-19 related data was provided by two senior officials — Officer on Special Duty (OSD), northwest zone, C R Kharsan and medic of health Dr. Bhavin Solanki —as one data was as per June 1 and therefore the other May 28.
