As Bihar has ramped up the testing in current weeks, the number of positive cases has also heightened. However, the infection rate, which was 7.46 percent of the samples tested by May end has gone down to 3.46 percent. In addition to this, the death rate in Bihar is just 0.7 percent whereas the national average is 3 percent.
With 226 COVID-19 patients being discharged on Sunday after they recouped, Bihar’s coronavirus recovery rate has shot up to 78 percent, the greatest so far in the state. However, 258 new COVID-19 cases have emerged which indicates that the fight against coronavirus is far from over. The fresh cases have taken Bihar’s total tally up to 9,117 and death toll to 62.
Bihar Information Secretary Anupam Kumar said the healing rate of coronavirus patients is 20 per cent greater than the national average, which develops hope that the state healthcare has been performing well.
Health Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh said that so far Bihar has tested 2,05,832 samples, out of which 3.46 percent have turned out to be Covid-19 positive. A few weeks ago, Bihar was testing around 3,500 samples per day. The number is more than double the original with as many as 7,447 COVID-19 samples tested on Sunday.
In the meantime, a housekeeping staff of the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) also tested positive for COVID-19. The staff was asked to serve food to patients in the isolation ward of our hospital. Till now a total of 15 hospital staff at the PMCH have tested positive for COVID-19. The 15 staffs include eight doctors, two MBBS interns, two nurses, two paramedical staff of clinical pathology department and a woman housekeeping staff.
Maximum positive cases of 396 are from Patna followed by 351 from Bhagalpur and 347 in Begusarai.
2,136 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Till now, over one lakh 51 thousand tests have been conducted. Corona has claimed 50 lives in the state. The highest deaths have been recorded in the Darbhanga district.
