Foods to avoid polycystic ovaries

Dr. Prashant Kale says, “Polycystic ovaries are a very common problem in females. It is mostly seen in the 16 to 32 years of age group. This is due to dietary changes and having junk foods that are responsible for PCOS. Let me tell you about the food to avoid in case of PCOD-

Bakery products Refine carbs Bread Biscuits Cakes Chinese Street foods Junk foods Fried food Processed foods Sugar drinks

Foods to eat on PCOS

Dr. Prashant Kale says, “Let me tell you about foods to eat in case of PCOD -

Healthy foods  Sprouts  Broccoli  Cauliflower

This reduces insulin resistance in PCOS. There is a need for movement and exercise during PCOS with a healthy lifestyle. So focus on these three aspects for PCOS -

Diet  Exercise  Healthy lifestyle  Eat home-cooked meals  Avoid maida refined flour Ban outside food.”

PCOS can cause early menopause

Dr. Prashant Kale states, “Menopause occurs at the age of 48 - 51 years in India. In menopause, there are hormonal changes in females that cause the stoppage of menstruation. There is a hormonal imbalance in females suffering from PCOS. There is a decrease in female hormones like estrogen and progesterone. Studies show that PCOS can delay menopause due to high estrogen levels.”

PCOS cause infertility

Dr. Prashant Kale informs, “PCOS is the most common cause of infertility. There are many patients suffering from infertility of whom 70 % contribute towards the PCOD. It is increased due to dietary habits and unhealthy lifestyles. There is a hormonal imbalance in PCOS which causes infertility. In normal females, the follicles are formed in the ovaries and released after it reaches a certain size. In PCOS, there is no increase in follicles and release of eggs due to hormonal imbalance. In such cases, there are no menses and no pregnancy. Insulin resistance may also be another cause which does not allow the cells to use glucose. These patients are at high risk of diabetes and stimulate the male hormones in females which result in infertility. Fertility in PCOS can be taken care with-

Medical treatment  Weight reduction and exercise  Healthy diet.”

PCOS causes weight gain

Dr. Prashant Kale says, “PCOS and weight gain problems go hand in hand. PCOS patients must follow a diet and exercise to reduce weight. There is insulin resistance in the tissue of female patients suffering from PCOS. This causes an increase in sugar levels and increases in insulin causing hyperinsulinemia. Insulin stimulates the growth hormones and receptors which causes fat deposition and weight gain in PCOS. Weight reduction is very essential for PCOS and diet reduction. Just medicines won't work. You need weight reduction with a healthy lifestyle to defeat PCOS.”
