Dr. Samba Reddy, Phd, RPh, professor of neuroscience and experimental therapeutics at the Texas A&M College of Medicine has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 13th annual convention of ABAP & International Biotechnology Conference in Vijayawada .Dr Reddy received this honour for his highly coveted scientific research and service to the profession in the field of pharmacy. The award and gold medal were presented to Dr Reddy at by Dr Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad and Dr KS Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram Central University, India.
He teaches both medical and graduate level courses and directs a research team in central nervous system drug development. Dr. Reddy has made exceptional contributions to the pharmaceutical field through his services during the past 20 years, in addition to serving as an expert member in federal government panels in Washington D.C.
He is a highly trained pharmacist-pharmacologist developing new therapeutics for epilepsy and chemical neurotoxicity. He is developing new drugs for epilepsy and brain disorders, and his research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes for Health (NIH) for over 14 years. He is the principal investigator of an NIH project focusing on novel treatments for organophosphate and chemical nerve agent intoxication, and he directs a Department of Defense project on post-traumatic epilepsy after traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Reddy was elected fellow of three leading scientific organizations --the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the American Epilepsy Society (AES) for his outstanding contributions to pharmacology and epilepsy neuroscience research.
Dr. Reddy won a number of awards for his research excellence, including the NIH Research Excellence Award (2000), ASPET Award (2004), Sigma-Xi Research Award (2006), ASIOA Award (2007), NATA Research Award (2012), TANA Award (2013), ATA Science Award (2014), and Texas A&M Medicine Research Excellence Award (2015).
Dr. Reddy has been conferred with a Telangana Science Achievement award for his pioneering (lifetime) contributions in discovering new treatments for brain diseases. He serves as expert member and adviser for federal scientific committees, including the NIH, DOD, EPA and USP.
Dr. Reddy received his doctorate in pharmacology from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
