Essential winter skin care tips

Winters have arrived in many parts of India and we are all feeling its wrath. With the temperature decreasing day by day, your body and skin requires several layers to keep the warmness intact. Here are some effective winter skincare tips to keep you going in this chilled weather.

Winter skin care tips

The goodness of lukewarm water – We all love to bathe with hot water as the temperature dips. But for the skin, lukewarm water serves best. Avoid hot water for your body, especially for your face and hair. They get damaged. Hot water dries your skin quickly and if you don’t moisturize it, the skin develops cracks and eczema soon after. So, always wash your face with lukewarm water and then apply moisturizer. This will prevent dryness and will keep your skin intact.

Keep your body hydrated – As the air is drier in winter, water evaporates from your body easily. Hence you need to keep your body hydrated.

Choose your winter skincare products wisely – Winter skincare products differ from summer skin care. We need to put extra effort to keep our skin glowing and shiny. Using a milder skin care product is best for winter. You need extra products to fulfill the requirements. Avoid masks and peels, astringent lotions, and any product that contains alcohol as they make your skin dry during the winter.

Protect your skin - You may like to step out in the sun, the sun rays may feel pleasant but UV rays can still damage your skin. Use sunscreen appropriately. Use sunscreen that has titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

The diet regimen – Consume a lot of seasonal fruits and vegetables for better health of the skin. Berries are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals that provide nourishment to your skin. To maintain the optimum water content, do include salads, soups, juices, milk, etc. This way you will get all the nutrients to keep the skin healthy.

Exercise – Exercise will pump your heart rate which in turn will pump more blood to your organs and skin, thus helpful in maintaining glowing skin. In winter, the sweat glands and blood vessels constrict a bit. Exercising will promote better blood circulation.

Avoid wearing wet clothes for too long – This may cause itching. If you love to play in the snow, it’s okay but make sure you remove the socks, pants, and gloves as soon as possible.

Avoid doing excess exfoliation – Exfoliation is removing dead skin cells but if you have dry skin, avoid doing that. Wil oily and normal skin, exfoliating once a week is fine.

Don’t forget your hands and feet – Do take better care of your hands and feet in winter. Always apply moisturizer on all your hands after bath, twice or thrice a day is fine. Choose glycerine-based creams and petroleum jelly to moisturize your feet.
