FDA approves Wegovy injection which is a chronic weight management drug. This can be used in patients who are overweight and suffering from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes. Weight management is must for these patients.

Everyone wants to stay fit and lose weight. Nowadays, weight loss is not just considered as the trend for looking good but also to stay healthy. Weight management is very important to keep diseases and disorders at bay which allows you to stay healthy. Being obese and overweight welcomes many diseases and is a sign of “open invitation” to many diseases. We need to make sure that healthy weight should be maintained. The terms overweight and obese refers to bodyweight that is greater than what is considered normal or healthy for a certain height.

Healthy weight management is a must

Being overweight is due to an increase in body fat. When we analyse the weight, we generally take various parameters into consideration like the muscle weight, the bone weight, the water weight and not to forget the most importantly the fat weight. People who are obese have too much body fat. Obesity increases the chances of being prone to various diseases as your entire bodily system goes for a toss.

BMI (Basal Metabolic Rate)

Obesity is an illness that results in a higher risk of morbidity. Here, it is important to include your BMI (Body Mass Index) which will tell you whether you have a healthy weight, or overweight or obese. The BMI is a measurement of your weight based on height. The greater the BMI, the higher the risk of obesity It is very important to analyze the risk factors that put you on higher chances of getting obese.

The causes of obesity

Stress Erratic eating habits  Overeating  Type of food  Quantity of food Nature of food Eating junk food Eating foods high in fats  Genetics

Reaching and staying healthy is a long-term challenge. You should put in efforts in the right direction to achieve a healthy weight. If it is difficult for you to get on a weight loss diet, you can at least maintain a stable healthy weight and this will keep you motivated to achieve a healthy weight.

FDA approves Chronic Weight management drug

On June 4 th 2021, the FDA approved the weight management drug Wegovy which is a semaglutide injection (2.4 mg once a week) for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with one related health condition hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. This under skin injection is the first approved chronic weight management drug in adults with obesity after 2014

Let’s face the fact that high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar levels need some weight management treatment to get these parameters under control. This approval is a beneficial new option for those suffering from weight issues. Having obesity issues increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Losing weight by 10 - 20 % can definitely help in reducing the chances of cardiovascular diseases.
