A study done on 2,00,000 people showing signs and symptoms of anxiety, has revealed that the mental condition is determined by six gene types a person acquires.
The report, prepared by Yale University, suggests that specific genes influence or triggers depression to the level of being classified as post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and even schizophrenia.
There have been studies undertaken earlier on the genetic link of depression, this one studied the gene variant linked to anxiety, which affects nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide.
A number of these variants were observed to have links with genes that contribute towards governing gene activity or the estrogen. Probably, this explains the reason behind women suffering from anxiety more than men.
MAD1L1 is a newly discovered gene thought to influence anxiety, has been linked to other mental illnesses as well. But the gene’s entire functioning is yet to be ascertained.
