▴ FORDA’s Meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda
The ongoing efforts to ensure a credible and fair examination process will not only benefit the candidates but also strengthen the overall healthcare system in the country.

On a recent Saturday, representatives from the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to discuss crucial issues in medical education, including the postponement of the NEET PG exams. This meeting highlights the importance of addressing the concerns of resident doctors and ensuring a fair examination process.

During the meeting, the FORDA representatives congratulated Minister JP Nadda on his second term at the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Minister expressed his commitment to resolving the issues promptly and assured the delegation that new exam dates would be announced soon. He emphasized that the process would be transparent and fair, aiming to eliminate the stress and anxiety among medical students and professionals.

The Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, V K Paul, was also present at the meeting, showing strong support for the concerns raised by FORDA. The involvement of NITI Aayog highlights the government’s dedication to improving the medical education system in India.

Several key issues were brought up during the discussion, including:

1. NEET PG Postponement : The primary concern was the need to postpone the NEET PG exams to give students adequate preparation time and reduce their stress.

2. Fair Examination Process : The representatives stressed the importance of a transparent and fair examination process to ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity.

3. Welfare of Resident Doctors : The welfare of resident doctors was a major focus, with discussions on improving working conditions, providing better facilities, and addressing mental health concerns.

Minister JP Nadda reiterated his office's dedication to the welfare of resident doctors and promised timely resolutions to their issues. He wished all doctors a Happy Doctor’s Day and acknowledged their invaluable contributions to the healthcare system.

The NEET (UG) 2024 Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), took place on May 5, 2024. It was held at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 cities abroad, with over 23 lakh candidates appearing for the exam. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, which led to widespread protests across the country, highlighting potential irregularities.

In response to these concerns, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a criminal case on June 23 over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams by the NTA. Special teams were formed to probe the matter thoroughly. This step aims to ensure that the examination process is free from any malpractice and maintains its integrity.

Future Steps:

1. Addressing Irregularities: The government is committed to addressing any irregularities in the examination process. Ensuring the credibility and fairness of competitive exams like NEET PG and NEET UG is crucial for maintaining the trust of candidates and their families.

2. Enhancing Transparency: Moving forward, the government plans to implement measures to enhance transparency in the examination process. This includes clear communication regarding exam schedules, criteria, and procedures, ensuring that all candidates have a fair and equal opportunity.

3. Improving Welfare of Medical Students: The welfare of medical students and resident doctors remains a top priority. The government aims to improve working conditions, provide better support systems, and address mental health concerns to create a conducive environment for learning and professional growth.

The recent meeting between FORDA representatives and Union Health Minister JP Nadda marks a significant step towards addressing the concerns of medical students and resident doctors. With a focus on transparency, fairness, and welfare, the government is committed to improving the medical education system in India. The ongoing efforts to ensure a credible and fair examination process will not only benefit the candidates but also strengthen the overall healthcare system in the country.
