In a major one-day spike in COVID-19 cases, 64 persons tested positive for the virus in Goa on Sunday. The containment zone of Mangor Hill in Vasco continued to be a serious hotspot, with the locality reporting 16 new patients, while another 22 were linked-up thereto.
The virus has further spread its base in Salcette taluka with Navelim recording its first COVID-19 case. Meanwhile, Ambelim continued to ascertain an increase in cases with seven more tested positive, so also Curtorim reported another four more cases and two in Margao.
Quepem also recorded one new case, with active cases now at five today.


As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), with 64 new cases and 6 recoveries, taking the total number of active cases to 683; while total confirmed cases as on date crossed the 800 marks (818).


Out of the 2082 samples tested, 64 were reported positive, while 1577 were declared negative. The results of 441 reports are still awaited.
The Mangor Hill containment zone, with 16 new cases, has now a complete 338 COVID-19 patients, while 205 cases are linked to the hotspot.
With additional cases being reported in Sada and Vaddem in Vasco, the areas now have 40 and 17 patients, respectively, while Baina has 37.
No new cases were reported in Indiranagar in Chimbel (4), Betim (1), Porvorim (1) and Raia (7).
Also, on Sunday, four travelers were tested positive.
On Saturday, 235 inter-state domestic travelers and 100 international travelers were placed under home quarantine while 147 under facility quarantine.
Twenty suspects are under hospital isolation.
Also, around 1167 people are quarantined at various hotels and residencies.
The increasing COVID-19 pandemic has brought Goa’s tourism to a grinding halt, so drug peddlers are reportedly turning to routine jobs to earn a living. Drug addicts and peddlers are now doing odd-jobs at car washing centers, selling vegetables, and even making face masks. Lockdown is eased but most of them are reportedly continuing with their newly-found regular source of earning and appear to be happy.
Meanwhile, neighbouring State Maharashtra on Sunday reported 3,870 new COVID-19 cases, shooting the count to 1,32,075, a Health official said.
With 101 deaths, the amount of fatalities has mounted to 6,170, he said.
A total of 1,591 patients were discharged within the day, taking the number of recovery cases to 65,744, the official said.
Maharashtra COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,32,075, new cases 3,870, deaths 6,170, discharged people 65,744, active cases 60,147, people tested thus far 7,73,865.
