India has seen a spike of 3,722 positive Coronavirus cases and 134 deaths within the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Thursday.
The total number of positive cases within the country now stands at 78,003, including 49219 active cases, 26235 cured/discharged/migrated cases. a complete of two,549 people have died thus far, said Health Ministry.
With 25,922 confirmed cases, Maharashtra is that the worst suffering from the infection within the country thus far. Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with 9,267 and 9,227, cases respectively are subsequent worst suffering from the disease. The capital, Delhi, is simply a few cases behind the 8 thousand mark as per the update on Thursday morning.
Nine states and union territories haven't reported any new COVID-19 patients within the last 24 hours and therefore the rate of doubling of cases has increased to 12.6 days, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday.
Vardhan highlighted that testing capacity has increased within the country to 1,00,000 tests per day and complete 18,56,477 tests are done thus far for COVID-19 with 94,708 samples being tested on Tuesday.
So far 352 government and 140 private laboratories are given approval for conducting COVID-19 tests, officials said.
Mumbai reported a startling jump within the number of COVID-19 casualties on Wednesday, with 40 deaths. the town also recorded the second-highest daily count of the latest cases with 800 of them on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the city's municipal authorities are making arrangements to extend the testing capacity of the laboratories at Kasturba and KEM hospitals.
Civic officials said that among the 40 deaths, 17 of them happened between May 4 and 10, and 22 of the patients were affected by other ailments. While 20 of the patients who died were senior citizens, 17 others were between the age bracket of 40-59 years and three were below the age of 40.
